Breakfast seminar with Brian Dunphy: The Daily Show
This morning, Brian Dunphy held a breakfast seminar on Jon Stewart of The Daily Show at Berghs. Brian Dunphy told the story of how one of the most important media watchdogs became the leader of the 5th estate (the response to the 4th estate, or, the media’s failure to report the news).
Jon Stewart of The Daily Show is one of the most trusted men in American television news. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart has won The Peabody Award for Journalistic Excellence for their Presidential election coverage in 2004, won awards for writing, directing and have received Emmys for the past 10 years straight for their work.
In the lecture, Brian Dunphy explored the Daily Show origins and subsequent transformation to one of the most important media watchdogs as it became the leader of the 5th estate (the response to the 4th estate, or, the media’s failure to report the news) and became one of the most trusted voices in a cacophony of left vs. right reporting and conflict.
Brian Dunphy focused on The Daily Show’s influence within the American political sphere and the battle for sanity in a divided America. And of course, he took a look at their essential political coverage of the looming 2012 Presidential election, as well as previous elections that have shaped American society over the past decade.
This seminar was presented by Berghs School of Communication and Comedy Central.
