Emily pursued studies in London as part of the Berghs Bachelor Program
Emily shares her journey with the Berghs Bachelor Program, which led to a life in London as a Community Manager and Junior Copywriter at Sproud.
What program did you study, and what are you working on now?
I studied Berghs Bachelor and now work as a Community Manager and Junior Copywriter at Sproud in London.
Tell us about your journey to studying at Berghs Bachelor and why you chose an international education.
After graduating high school, I knew I wanted to study something creative. I was tired of school and didn’t want to go for a traditional academic education filled with theories and heavy textbooks. I wanted to create and be creative. The advertising world attracted me because it seemed like a fun and dynamic industry, even though I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to explore different areas, understand how advertising works in practice, and find my place in it.
At the same time, I was eager to leave Sweden and experience a new country. I strongly believe that we develop both personally and creatively when we step out of our comfort zones. So, I wanted an international and creative education to grow in every way.
When I found Berghs Bachelor, it felt right immediately. The program had a “learning by doing” approach and gave me the opportunity to study abroad. After completing the education and spending time at Ravensbourne University in London, I gained a deeper understanding of the creative advertising world while adapting to a new culture. Living in London and studying at Ravensbourne was a unique experience. I studied Advertising and Brand Design, where I got to try everything from copywriting and strategy to design and much more. The British culture and the fast-changing creative landscape gave me new perspectives and strengthened my confidence in trusting my own instincts.
Describe a typical day as a Community Manager and Junior Copywriter at Sproud
A typical day at Sproud is varied. I work from our office in London, so the day starts with a journey on a crowded subway along with seasoned commuters. Once at the office, there’s some small talk with colleagues and, of course, a Sproud coffee.
As a Community Manager, my main task is to communicate with our community and keep the conversation alive on social media. After a morning meeting with the marketing team in Malmö, I go through DMs and plan what content will be produced and published next. I create content in the form of photos, videos, and copy, which is my favorite part of the job because it allows me to be creative.
The process varies. Some productions are larger and involve photographers, props, and collaborators, while others are simpler – just me and a package of Sproud. After a “desk lunch” (the biggest cultural shock so far), I take a walk before it’s time for meetings with potential partners.
Some days I spend at the office, while other days are dedicated to filming content out on the streets. Even though the marketing team is spread out, we have a strong relationship and bounce ideas and concepts around daily.
During my time in London, where I’ve had various internships, I’ve realized that the most important thing for me is having good colleagues who inspire and create a sense of security, as well as having space for creative freedom. I’ve found both at Sproud.
What was the most valuable or educational part of your time at Berghs and Ravensbourne?
The most valuable part of Berghs was the pace and the teachers. The first period in Stockholm was intense – we were thrown into the advertising world and worked on exciting projects under tight deadlines.
At Ravensbourne, the pace was slower, and we worked a lot in groups with relatively free rein from the teachers. I brought with me the work discipline from Berghs, which helped me perform well there too.
Another highlight at Ravensbourne was meeting professionals in the creative industry in London – from freelancers to top names in major agencies. Networking with these people was invaluable and inspiring.
One of the most memorable parts of the studies was our participation in the D&AD New Blood Awards during our final year. I worked with Pablo Durban and Reiss Milton on a brief about abortion. We won a New Blood White Pencil, which was a fantastic way to end our studies. It wouldn’t have been possible without everything we learned at Berghs and the support from the teachers at Ravensbourne.
Do you have any tips for those considering studying at Berghs Bachelor?
It’s an amazing opportunity – both for your education and personal development. Take every chance to talk to industry professionals and learn from them. Dare to challenge yourself and enjoy living in another country.
Recommendations for someone considering an international education?
It may feel scary and overwhelming, but everything works out – accommodation, student loans, all the admin. It’s worth it. You won’t regret it. Just go for it!
